Job Description:
The NTC Foundation’s Education Coordinator develops and manages education programs at NTC Promenade – the Civic, Arts & Cultural District at Liberty Station. The scope of work of the Position includes, but is not limited to:
The Liberty School Program
The Liberty School is an educational program at NTC Promenade now in its third year. This program has been developed to offer at-risk students from San Diego County schools an opportunity to work with resident non-profit and civic organizations on project-based learning that supplements and enriches standards-based classroom instruction.
Phase One began in September 2007 with two student populations: 1) 3rd grade students from Dewey Elementary School in Point Loma (mostly children of active military personnel) who will come to program one afternoon each week; 2) 7th grade students from San Diego Unified School District’s ALBA (Alternative Learning for Behavior and Attitude) program. In 2009, the program expanded to include two of the County of San Diego’s Juvenile Court and Community Schools.
Scope of Work as of September 2010 includes:
- Coordinating curriculum development and program planning with principals and classroom teachers from participating schools;
- Matching our Resident Groups with the schools and working with both groups to develop projects/programs for students that address academic standards and help teachers achieve instructional goals;
- Scheduling all program activities to meet student/resident group requirements;
- Developing, coordinating and assessing Program Evaluation
- Creating a Liberty School Annual Report
- Leading ongoing program planning and implementation for future phases of project when funding is available
- Log, record, document work done
- Long Range Planning
- Developing Policies and Procedures
- Creating Professional Development Opportunities for Teachers and Resident Groups
- Assisting Development Director and Fund Development Consultant in identifying potential funding sources and participating in fundraising activities, including donor solicitation and grant writing in conjunction with NTC Foundation staff;
- Serving as a Community Spokesperson and representing the NTC Foundation and The Liberty School at community/educational events;
- Meeting with representatives of print/broadcast media as required.
Employment Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in related field or experience
- Experience working with at-risk student population, in the classroom a plus
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills
- Focused, organized, sets and meets deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work as a team
