NTC Summer Arts Academy
NTC Promenade presents an exceptional experience for youngsters (grades 3-8) featuring the instructional experience of profes-sional artists in dance, art, music, theatre, martial arts and physical conditioning. Scheduling will allow your child the opportunity to sample various artistic programs in half-day and whole day programs.
 
Location: NTC PROMENADE (LIBERTY STATION), POINT LOMA
The new arts and culture district in restored historic buildings at Liberty Station in the former Naval Training Center.

For half-day classes, choose any group. For full day classes, choose two groups. Student groups will be filled by third through fifth grade students and sixth through eighth grade students.
 

Group A1 – San Diego Ballet
Classes will focus on exercises for better flexibility, posture, balance, co-ordination, turnout, and muscle toning. Students will gain an appreciation of the art of ballet as well as classical music and learn self discipline all while having fun.

Group A2 – Vision Art Quilt Gallery
Students will create their own wall quilt which they will take home on Friday.

Group B1 – Jean Isaacs Dance Theatre
Hip Hop, in both its physical form and the cultural manifestations of this dance genre will be presented. Hip Hop is one of the strongest ways to introduce dance to youth as it requires strength from the upper body and legs, rhythm and improvisational skills.

Group B2 – Recreational Music Center
If you love Rock Band or Guitar Hero, then come and try the real thing. Students will be introduced to electric guitars, drums and keyboards and will be jammin’ as a band by the end of the week. If students have experience with any of these instruments, assigned musical parts will match their level.

Group C1 – PAARTS: Performing Arts and Athletic Restorative Training Specialists
Provides instruction and activities that encourage an active and healthy lifestyle. Students gain knowledge, self-

confidence, independence, cooperation, physical fitness and leadership while making new friends and developing life-long skills. PAARTS aims to inspire students in the pursuit of goals which ignite motivation and personal satisfaction through healthy living.

Group C2 – Expressive Arts Institute
Students will explore images, abstract and concrete, using multi-media techniques.

Group D1 – Malashock Dance School
Provides students an opportunity to explore and learn more about contemporary dance. Warm-ups, safe stretching, exciting and athletic dances, choreography, will allow students to appreciate diverse musical choices and a wide range of dance styles throughout the week. This is for dancers at all levels of experience.

Group D2 – ARTS: A Reason to Survive
This class offers “drawing from the right side of the brain” which will explore optical illusions and perspective to create self portraits, still life and plein-air drawings.

Group E1 – Actors Alliance of San Diego Musical Theatre Performance
Class will include instruction in Vocal Technique, Character Development, Choreography and Staging through fun, interactive, hands-on learning experiences

Group E2 – Capoeira Brasil
Capoeira is a Brazilian art form combining aspects of dance, martial arts, and acrobatics, all set to music! Participants develop increased balance, coordination, flexibility and rhythm while learning lessons on cooperation and teamwork. Students quickly learn that in the roda (circle), collaboration is key to having the most fun, a lesson we encourage them to apply in their everyday lives.

Group F1 – ARTS: A Reason to Survive
This class will offer an innovative educational experience in photography. Students will learn basic techniques of photography and how this skills can be used both recreationally and educationally.

Group F2 – U.S. Karate Academy
Gives students an outlet for life’s challenges and stresses while offering discipline and structure. Youngsters acquire skills to focus, instills self confidence, self-discipline, respect and commitment while having fun. Running, jumping, and kicking skills are taught in a safe and structured environment and help produce students who are becoming physically fit and mentally sharp – all while making new friends and discovering new talents and abilities.
