Many people think it takes years to learn to play the guitar. This is true, but only if you want to master the skill at a sufficiently high level. More often, people want to be able to play their favorite songs – in the company of friends or “for the soul.”
A perfect example is Stairway to Heaven which is banned in some guitar shops. It is quite possible to cope with such a task in a shorter time. By practicing regularly, you will learn the basic chords and playing techniques in a couple of months.
Guitar Selection
It all starts, of
course, with the choice of an instrument. This is an important step, as a poor-quality guitar can discourage even the most diligent student. In general, choosing a guitar consists of three stages: determining musical tastes, estimating a budget, and, in fact, choosing the instrument itself.
Guitar Tuning
Hooray, everything you need is there. You can play! Do not hurry. First, get to know the instrument better by examining its structure. Before you can learn to play the guitar, you need to set it up. This is not as difficult as it might seem at first. You can tune the instrument either with a phone app or tuner or without any tools.
Preparing to Play
You need to prepare to play the guitar: you also need to sit correctly, hold the guitar and clamp the strings. Let’s start with this. Sit with your guitar on a chair, bed, or sofa. It doesn’t really matter what it will be, as long as you sit relaxed. This primarily concerns the shoulders and back.
The classic position is one in which one leg stands on a small stand (or one leg rests on the other). This position is considered more natural – it does not strain the shoulders, forearm, and back. This does not mean that you cannot try other positions.
If you plan on performing while playing the guitar while standing, you can learn to play in that position as well. Just remember to adjust the height of the guitar and the length of the strap beforehand so that your hands are not overstrained. You can now try the different chords and melodies with your guitar.
